Crafting words and images that build relationships

From the archives, more samples of relevent work. In addition to all written material,
I did the photography and merchandising. More examples are available upon request.

Making The Cut - A case study I wrote for utility engineering software client, Powel Inc. (GeoDigital), about their customer, Canada's NB Energy, developing a vegetation management system based on Powel's StakeOut product.  This story appeared in Transmission & Distribution World, the utility industry's top publication for power engineers. Olde World Meets Digital World
- An article published in Control Magazine that I bylined for Theo de Groen, brewmaster of Baltimore Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. It explains in detail how my client (Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc.) had installed an HMI (Human Machine Interface) and object-oriented Siemens software called "WinCC" as the backbone of a PC-automated brewing system. It won one of the highest readership scores ever achieved by Control Magazine. Siemens received a record number of readership inquiries, and Baltimore Brewing was grateful for the free publicity. Just Pick Up Your Plant and Leave - Sometimes a published article is a joint effort between myself and an editor or person being bylined. This article (published: July, 2003) in Control Design Magazine is such an example. Through the close relationships I build with the trade press, I am able to take advantage of editorial opportunities. This is one of those cases. (View)

Cover Opportunities - Here is an example of that taking place in the Control Engineering May, 2002 issue. It featured the fieldbus technology of my client, Siemens Energy & Automation. An important element of capitalizing on this is making sure that you have quality photography available. I normally arranged and supervised photography with professionals but shot the cover and supporting photos myself. (View)

Tying the Article to the Cover - In addition to making sure as a PR professional that one takes ample advantage of capitalizing on cover opportunities, it is just as critical that an article is available to tie back into the cover feature. This example shows how I was able to tie into the opportunity mentioned in the above link. (View)

Press Releases - Of course, there is an ongoing opportunity for companies to have their fair share of press releases published in key magazines. These are usually simple and may include a photograph of the product. Here is such an example. (View)

Internal Communications - As a member of the Siemens Corporation PR Department, I was the co-editor-in-chief for our interdepartmental newsletter. It kept my fellow PR employees informed on what was happening company-wide, including internationally. I wrote most of the articles, gathered the information, did the desktop publishing, and worked with a local printing firm to produce it on a quarterly basis. (View)
